Teach Your Rottweiler to Roll Over

Hi! I’m Melanie McLeroy with Taurus Training for Expert Village, and today we’re going to talk about training dogs. So we’re going to teach this Rottweiler how to roll over. At the end of the last segment teaching her to lie down, Ursa rolled around on her back just happy as can be. She was offering me some really cute behavior to see how I would respond. Well I’m going to take that offering behavior and mold it into a something that I can use… well for a party trick and for fun, because we want training to be fun. So I’m going to use food as a lure and actually move her head in such a way that she rolls over, good, very nice. Now I want to move quickly here. Now see how she has gotten over and she’s kind of twisted. I’m going to take her head back around, over, good, very nice Ursa, very cute. With any new behavior you can use the food as a lure, but then you have to fade the lure. If your dog is offering roll overs, just say the word at the same time they’re doing it, mark it and treat it. It’s two different ways to teach your dog to roll over, and then you have something cute to show her Rottweiler friends.
