How to Choose the Right Mac

Hi, this is Douglas Willott on behalf of Expert Village and today we're going to decide between purchasing a PC or a Mac. Alright, you want a computer with better overall security. Or you want a computer you can do more media items on, etc. For whatever reason, you've chosen the Mac. We're not going to worry about the PC now. Whereas the PC has multiple manufacturers and a lot more decisions to make once you've decided on it, the Mac has one manufacturer, Macintosh. So that part's really easy to decide on. You don't even have to make the decision; it's been made for you. But now you have to decide what Mac works for you, a desktop or a laptop. And even if you've decided on the desktop, there are multiple levels of desktop. That's true about the laptops, too. I have a Macbook. However, if I wanted to pay an extra $1,000, I could get the next step up, which is a very, very powerful laptop. As powerful, if not more powerful, than the mid-range desktop with Macs that you can get right now. Additionally, you can pay for more expensive desktop with Macintosh, but at that point you're talking up in the $3,000 range, but you're going to get a really, really nice machine that's going to last you for many years. Let's say you want to spend the least amount possible, but you still want a Mac. It's $600 for a Mac Mini at that point which is a very basic computer without the monitor. It's very small but it gets the job done if all you need is some basic business software and some internet browsing.
