How to Choose a Mac or PC

Hi, this is Douglas Willot on behalf of Expert Village and today we're going to talk about how to decide between purchasing a PC or a Mac. The most basic question you need to ask when you're shopping for a computer; regardless of whether its a PC, Mac, you're unsure, or you know going in; what do I need my computer for? When deciding between a PC and a Mac, a lot of times this question can actually yield the same result for either system. Let's say you need it for work. Well, both of them are going to help you with work. Both of them have alot of the same Microsoft Office programs that most offices use, such as Excel, Word, etc. So instead, it's better to ask specific questions. Not just I need it for work but, I need it for this specific function for my work. If it's accounting, I definitely need Excel. Both, like I said use Excel and that Excel is interchangable. You can type something on your PC at work and then take it to your Mac laptop at home as long as you have Excel. It's going to let the files transfer over, no problem. Instead of thinking of just what is it specfically I need for work, think about the different things that may be pluses or minuses on a system that you've heard about. For instance, internet browsing is alot easier on a Mac becasue of the safety that is there. However, if you need a computer that is for gaming specifically, we can go for the PC in that area. I'll go into more specifics on that in a future video. Right now, think about exactly that. What is it you are specifically looking for?
