Hello my name is Dr. Susan Jewell and on behalf of Expert Village I want to talk to you about how to recognize and reduce the risk of getting food poisoning. Now, in this clip were going to talk about food preparation but also when you're preparing food or preparing a dish about commonly how people like to taste the food. It's okay to taste the food, because you want to adjust the taste and add more salt or condiments or whatever else you do. However, the problem is that, most people introduce bacteria into the food while they're testing, because what they do, they taste it with a utensil they decide whether it needs adjusting, then, they put the utensil back into the food. So, you've introduced all your own germs and bacteria into the food and you've cross-contaminated cause now you're going to spread all of those germs to other people. So, my recommendation is, it's okay to taste food, but when you're finished using the utensil you put that down and you go and get a clean one and with that you can use that to taste the food again. And do that each time, always use a clean utensil to taste food, as you're preparing and cooking the food.
