If you do decide to shoot on location, here's a couple of things to keep in mind. If you go somewhere early in the morning, not only are you getting that great morning light, but you might have the place to yourself and then you can really let, you know, the dog run around or be able to choose whatever location that you're most interested in. Also, using a longer lens can help because with an animal like a dog, or even a horse, or, I don't know what other kind of animal you might have that likes to run around. You can stay put and the animal can run in circles, but you have got this long zoom lens so you can always catch the moment. Also, it's a great idea to go ahead and set your camera on automatic. Now I know that kinda goes against a lot of the professional rules. But if you put your camera on auto and you've got a pretty decent light meter in there, you can focus all your attention on the animal and you don't have to worry about messing with your camera, which will keep you from missing those amazing, fleeting shots. And you won't have your client going, "Oh, did you get that, did you see that", because you will have captured it.
