So now we're going to be talking about a second mode based upon the major scale called Dorian mode. If you remember from before a mode is basically a scale within the major scale. Before we covered mixolydian, which was starting on the fifth note, or degree of the C major scale. Now we're going to play the scale based upon the second note or degree. So if we play the C major scale, C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C what we're going to do is we're going to play the same scale but starting on D. D, E, F, G, A, B, C, D. Now in terms of fingering the scale you don't want to start on your pinky because it's a little more awkward that way. What you wan to do is start on your first finger and use this fingering right here. I find it works the best for me. We have. Now what this mode, well what we're going to use this mode to apply it is we're going to use over this twelve bar blues, the more advanced one, but we're going to put this Dorian mode over all of these minor chords here. So now instead of playing mixolydian mode for the entire tune we have now two scales that we're dealing with. We have the mixolydian scale and mode and then for the minors we have this Dorian scale. So that is the introduction to the Dorian mode.
