Orchid Root Care & Maintenance: Part 1

Now we are going to trim our rotted roots and you can tell the rotted ones. They have this string and we have a few but pretty much the roots are in good condition. Sometimes people trim healthy roots because it won’t affect the plant that much and they might want to fit it into a particular container. Generally speaking if you have a good root system you really don’t want to take away from that. If you leave the dead roots on, first of all they are not doing anything for the plant and as they decay, that can spread further up the root and also you just basically have rotting material in a pot that is getting wet. You have a rotting mess which why would you need that.
