The "Turn Around" on a Bass Fiddle

On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Steve Anthony here in New York City, today we're going to talk a little bit about Country Bass Fiddle techniques for beginners. As you become more familiar with some of the terminology and the structures of Country Bass one, four, five patterns, you're going to hear what's known as a "Turn Around". Sometimes the song will start with the "Turn Around". I'll give you an example of what the "Turn Around" would be. In an E pattern it would go. (audio demo) This would sort of be the turn around where it goes five and back to the one. So the "Turn Around" is simply going from the five back to the one. (audio demo) When somebody mentions the "Turn Around", hopefully, then you'll know what they're talking about and you'll be able to kick off the song with the "Turn Around". (audio demo) And one.
