Playing Octaves on a Bass Fiddle

On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Steve Anthony here in New York City, today we're going to talk a little bit about Country Bass Fiddle techniques for beginners. Now as we talk about the one, four, five pattern again. Let's use the example of the E in this case, as the one, as the root chord of the song. And the A as the four, the B as the five. We can also introduce the octave. The upper E, which we play on D string in the second position, so that gives us a little bit of variation as well. One (audio demo). You can see I did the same thing with the B on the G string, I played the upper octave. So that just gives some variation to the one, four, five pattern. (Audio demo) Whenever you have two strings, in this example the A string and the G string, as you play in the second position gives the octave. As you move up the neck the same principle applies so you can do that in any key. (Audio demo)
