How to Play Blues on a Bass Fiddle

On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Steve Anthony here in New York City. Today we're going to talk about country bass fiddle techniques for beginners. Let's talk a little bit more about the 1-4-5 pattern and how you can use variations to create a little mood and a little color with the music you might be playing. The simplest way to play a 1-4-5 pattern, usually in a 12-bar musical phrase would sound something like this. (plays) That can be in country and blues, also, but we are focusing a little bit on the country music so we'll talk about how we can vary that up. Some songs use what we call a "walking bass pattern" which is a little bit more "bluesy".(plays) Which is a little bit of a variation on the 1-4-5. (plays) This might be a little simpler, but the other variation is a little bit more colorful. (plays).
