Chess Literature, Tips & Advice for Chess Players
Hi! My name is Ken and I am here today to talk to you about playing Chess. We talked about the different parts of the game. If you are a beginner, what is the best way to learn to play Chess. Well, some of the best ways of course are to read books. This is a good book. It's on Chess openings. Why is that? Because Chess has maybe hundreds and hundreds of openings. This one has 181 openings, variations. I talked about 3 or 4 or 5 openings here in the book. So one thing to do is to give yourself a book on Chess. This one deals with openings but there is a book on a middle game, book on the end game with King and the Rook. These are all things that are part of the end game. That is one resource. The Internet is another good resource for playing Chess because there are a lot of articles written on Chess that you can find on-line and you could also play Chess which is a 3rd way for developing your skills. You can go into any of these chat rooms on Yahoo, AOL. They have gaming rooms and you can play Chess. You can come in as a novice and build up on a rating. You get rated by playing a certain amount of games and by winning. You go all the way from being a lowly player, like a 1200 and all the way up to a grand master, say 2200, which is you get a certain amount of points for every game that you win. Another place to improve your skills apart from playing with friends is to join a Chess club. There are Chess clubs in every local community and they have matches every week, they have meetings, they play and they have tournaments. It is always good to play tournaments as you get better and players that are better than you and that will sharpen your skills. The idea is the more you play, the more you will learn and basically it is a pretty fun game and it is a good way to develop your mental skills and its a game of strategy. So I highly recommend that you take some of these additional steps to enhance your skills and try to play as many games as possible. Again, the resources are out there on the Internet, books, Chess Clubs, tournaments in your local area. These things are going on all the time. Thank you.
