Cello Music Demonstration

Hi. I'm Melanie Yarger at Milano Music Center in Mesa, Arizona for Expert Village. Okay, so today, we've spoken about the cello and its brief history, the parts of the cello, the parts of the bow, how to correctly hold the cello, how to correctly hold the bow, some troubleshooting and some practice tips. Here are a few things to think about and how to care for your cello. The cello is made of wood, so remember it can dry out and it's put together with glue, so it can melt and fall apart. So make sure it doesn't get too cold or too hot. If it's dry where you live, make sure it gets some moisture with humidifiers. If it's humid, make sure that it stays in a case, never in direct sunlight. It is just like a very expensive old piece of furniture. You wouldn't want to keep it outside or let it get damaged in any way. Thank you for joining me and speaking about the basics of the cello. The cello has a huge repertoire and really you can play anything on it that you'd like, from jazz, to blues, rock and roll and classical. With lots of practice, a good teacher and some patience you can learn to play beautiful melodies, something like this. Thank you very much.
