Hi. I'm Melanie Yarger at Milano Music Center in Mesa, Arizona for Expert Village. In the last segment, we spoke about troubleshooting with playing cellos and some things you might want to keep your eye on. This, right now, we're going to talk about helpful practice techniques to improve your playing. Most importantly, stay relaxed and be patient. It's very tempting to want to forge ahead as quickly as possible and learn everything right now. But, it's not very easy to do that with cello. So, with bowing and open strings, make sure you don't bite off more than you can chew. Just open strings, very slowly. And learn how to play with your right hand correctly. Just be patient and allow yourself time, allow your muscles time to learn how to do that. With your left hand, very slowly, just make sure you have your first finger down and you can figure that out and it's relaxed. And then your third finger, and then your fourth finger. Don't try to play a bunch of notes. It's just teaching your muscles how to be tense. Very slowly, learn it very slowly and correctly, very loose and relaxed. Everything needs to be very slow and patient. Remember, it takes a lot longer to unlearn a bad habit that it does to correctly learn a good one.
