Hi. I'm Melanie Yarger at Milano Music Center in Mesa, Arizona for Expert Village. Now we're going to be talking about the bow. The bow is the cello's partner. You can play the cello without the bow, but most often we do play it with the bow. This is a bow. The bow is comprised of the stick, is the main part of the bow. This is the tip. The other end you have the frog and the screw. The screw tightens and loosens the hair. This is horsehair made from the tail of a horse. And those are the parts of the bow. The bow will not work without resin. Resin is tree sap that is hardened and makes the hair sticky. So, without resin, the bow sounds like this. And with resin, it sounds like this. Resin makes the bow stick to the string, pull the string and makes it vibrate, which causes vibrations to go through the instrument, the instrument to resonant and make sound.
