Hi. I'm Melanie Yarger at Milano Music Center in Mesa, Arizona for Expert Village. Now, we're going to talk about the cello and its parts. Earlier, we spoke about the viola d'gamba. Gamba means "leg" in Italian. It was held by the player's legs. The modern cello has an end pin, which allows you or the player to put the cello at a specific height for the height appropriate to the player. The next part we have is the tail piece. The tail piece is where the fine tuners go and the strings. The strings are what make the sound on the instrument. They ride over the bridge. The bridge is made of wood and sits about the halfway point of the instrument. The next part is the finger board. The finger board has no frets, so it's not called the fret board. The earlier instrument, the viola d'gamba did have frets. This is fretless. This is the neck and the peg box. These are the pegs. This is what tunes the strings. And this is the scroll. And that is, those are the parts of the cello.
