How to Remove a Fuel Filter

Hi my name is Nate McCullough on behalf of Expert Village. In these following clips we're going to talk about removal and replacement of the vehicle's fuel filter. In this clip, we're going to talk about removal of the fuel lines from your fuel filter. Like I said, it may require a special tool, one of these rainbow colored guys right here. Depending on your particular make and model, these are quick disconnects. They are available at your local parts store for approximately ten dollars. On this particular engine, all you need is a pair of slip-jaw pliers. As you can see this is our fuel filter down inside here. This is the canister style filter, and it has a permanent tension style hose clamp on it, you can see the little Mickey Mouse ears there. All you have to do on this particular clamp is squeeze it together and wiggle it up the line out of the way. I'm going to do that right now. Slide it right up the line. It's a good idea if you're dealing with a rubber hose not to try and just yank if off. What you're going to want to do is apply some twisting motion to it. Over time this rubber is going to have adhered mildly to the stem on the fuel filter, and you don't want to tear the hose. So if you apply a little twisting force it will pop free. You heard that pop right there, you can see how I'm twisting it. Right there you go. And you would repeat the exact same step for the bottom side.
