Open Stance Blocking in Soo Bahk Do

GEOFF STERLING: Hi, my name is Geoff Sterling. I'm with Hollywood Soo Bahk Do and what we'll show right now is an open stance and how to block somebody from-if somebody's in the open stance, what that means. And the way you block somebody and remember to step in towards the person and at an angle. So I'll demonstrate the open stance, hands application. I have Muhammad Husain practice [INDISCERNIBLE] soo bahk do, stepping in. So what an open stance is it's actually for somebody who's not trained it could be very confusing because usually in a intuition of people fighting is that you want to near to the person which means oppositely will be stepping back. In this case right now he's not near to me, he's got the same weight which could be very, it's the-that's why it's an open stance. So what he is going to demonstrate right now is if you were to punch me I have to go about my blocking at an angle difference. First attack, step this way. So notice his hands is tough for the person who's countering because he's got a lot more things in the way. So what I'll have to do here is probably come through with this hand to set the punch, I have to probably do a straight punch. Those are punches that we are going to get into in a later segment but in the meantime just now in open stance like when you're sparring somebody, in open stance when you're sparring somebody it can be a difficult situation. It's hard to defend against. So from us at Hollywood Soo Bahk Do, thank you for watching and that was an open stance.
