Applying Slip in Pottery

In this clip we're going to talk about putting some slip on our pot. Slip is liquid colored clay. I have some white slip with me, and I have two different kinds of brushes. So I'm going to take my brush, dip it into the slip, get it good amount on there, and while my pot is still on the wheel, I'm going to paint some slip on the side of my piece, rotating the wheel around slowly and putting the slip on the side. This is a good way to decorate your pot without using the glaze. It makes a good foundation to having a good surface treatment on there. I'm using the brush, reloading with the slip. Slip comes in different consistencies, different thicknesses. I can make it be thinner, for a more transparent veil like, or I can make it be thicker, more like icing. So there's a little stripe we put on the side of our pot.
