Effects of Gas Kilns on Pottery

DAVID GIBSON: In this, one of these last segments for advanced pottery, I'd like to talk about the kilns. There are several different kinds of kilns that have different kinds of atmospheres. Here, we have two gas kilns which are firing now at a high temperature cone 10 firing. They're going to do a little bit of body reduction early on in the firing and we're going to have some wonderful looking surfaces that are going to come out of that-come out of that firing. So a cone 10 reduction firing in the gas kiln. The gas can affect the pieces and make--change the surfaces of the glaze and have a varying surface on there. For example, your copper will be green or purple or red and it's a great way to fire your pieces.
