DAVID GIBSON: In this first clip of advanced pottery, let's talk about wedging. No matter how good we are with ceramics, it's imperative to wedge properly. We have to put the time in, the effort in, and the strength in to get all the air bubbles and align the clay for a nice pot on the wheel. I know that some times you can just power through the air bubbles, but we need to put our time in and I can't stress enough how much good wedging helps our pottery. So again, on the wheel I've got a bigger piece of clay here. I'm really getting on top of the clay and spending time and time again wedging, just like kneading dough to get all the air bubbles out. I had to cut this in half here and you can see that I've gotten all of the air bubbles out of our clay. So again, crucial, wedging properly is imperative for our work on the wheel. I can't stress that enough.
A potter's wheel is not readily available in our market. can it be improvised?
