Let's talk about sound mixing a little further. In order to control the levels in Pro Tools we have the ability to rubber band, we talked a little bit about. But, if you wan to start really mixing you need to listen to the sound track while you?re actually adjusting the levels. If you just work within programs itself you can only adjust one track at a time because you are restricted to the mouse. So, if I'm moving one fader up and down that's ok. But, once I start having other tracks playing at the same time I want to control things. So, the other way is if I look at my mix window here I can see all the faders, still limited at a time. Now, if I want, I have the ability to control the sound mix with an external device. This is one of my favorites this is one of the first one's that came out, it's quite successful. It's the Mackey Huey or the Human Interface. Human (Huey) Interface is what Huey stands for. It enables move the faders now. Once I have everything enable into automation mode if I touch any one of these faders I can control all he levels at once. Our I can grab a couple of faders at once. Generally what I like to do is I want to listen to the dialog and get that going and I want to listen to it to see what I can adjust. But, now I have the ability to adjust more than one thing at the same time. Makes mixing go a lot faster. The Huey is one of favorites, it's the original one. You can still get the Huey online probably at eBay in so fourth. I paid $2700 for this, I they have gone down to about a thousand bucks. Your other choices are the Command Eight, which is a great option; accentually it's like a glorified mouse. I let's you do a lot of the things you can do in the window right here on the surface. I can play, stop a little bit of editing. But, mainly what I use if for is those faders. In these faders are nice too, nice and quiet, they don't make a lot of noise. So that's really a good tip. If you want to start controlling and balancing things this is the way to go. Makes your mix go a lot faster and if you?re going to a lot of mixing this is the way to go.
