Automating Track Levels in Pro Tools

Ok, lets take a look at how we control levels with in Pro Tools. We control levels with the volume fader that's right here, if you click on this little icon a little fader will pop up and we also have our mix window that you remember from before. But, there is a way automating this track level. So, right now we're looking at the wave form view. If we look at volume, that's another view, we can control the level by moving points up and down in that it's like rubber banding like we call it. But, if you like to adjust the level as you?re listening to it that's when automation comes into play. So, let?s undo that real quickly what I just did there. Let's go ahead and look at our automation window that's very important. So, we go to the window and we go to automation and a window shows up. Right now automation is suspended we want to enable what we want to automate. So, if we click on volume that gives us the ability now to automate one of these channels. So, let?s bring our fader back up here and we'll click on it and we'll bring it over here. Actually maybe we will leave it right there. Let's put our automation from read into touch. Now, what happens is when I play my audio I'll have the ability to adjust a level if I want. So let?s take a listen to, alright that music seems a little loud to me so what I'm going to do is go down here in click on touch and I'm going to click on that fader and we'll lower that level. We'll go ahead and take a look at our volume graph right there and then we'll press play. We'll tough the fader and bring it down now and then you'll see as I'm changing levels you can see a red line that represents where I'm adjusting level. Which is a great function it lets you see where you?re making your adjustment and now it's written, that piece of automation, so if I play it again what ever movement I do on the fader it will repeat. Which is great. It leaves me go off and adjust the next fader. So there you go that's how you control levels with automation.
