Textbooks for Home School Lessons

About this time you can, but you don't have to add real textbooks. Now don't think that you need to get the latest and the newest edition of the textbooks that are out there. I would actually tell you the opposite. I find that as time goes on, people add more and more complicated, fancy, entertaining stuff to the same basic information and it doesn't make learning any better. It actually clouds up the page. Sometimes it makes learning more complicated and I don't understand why the education establishment is moving in that direction, but I would say to you "keep it simple" in all areas that you possibly can. Sometimes it's good to get a textbook just for yourself, just to make sure you didn't leave out any rules you were worried about and then you can use that textbook to make your own simple worksheets or simple pages for the child. Remember, don't worry about trying to get the latest and the best, and try not to spend too much money, look for older textbooks, which I find excellent. Even textbooks 20 or 30 years old, sometimes I find are the very best. You can also go to the discount stores and sometimes get one, two, and three, four dollar textbook that have a very simple basic topic, like grammar or vocabulary and use it to your discretion. You can do this from the beginning or you can start doing it at about this point. You really, technically with everything that we have learned so far, have given your child all of the tools that they need to read and to write and to learn how to take their literacy as far as it needs to go. From here you can just basically monitor their reading and teach them more and more about good writing and they can go all the way through the grades this way, without even ever looking at a standard textbook, but they can be very helpful. So, again, look for cheap, look for easy, look for simple, and don't stress about it and just use them to your discretion.
