ANTONIO NEAL: Hey, this is Antonio Neal with Artistic Soul Entertainment on behalf of Expert Village. Today, we're going to talk about copyrighting a song and also publishing the song. Alright, now, we're going to talk about how do I get my song to a publishing company. Alright, you think you're the greatest songwriter since Elvis Presley or actually Elvis didn't write songs. But anyway, Roy Orbison, you think the best songwriter since Roy. And you're like, "Man, I know my song is going to change the world. I know my song is supposed to be on American Idol, you know. I am the man!" So how do you get your song being the man to the person, to the labels or to the publishers you want to hear. That is all about relationships. There are hundreds of thousands of people every day trying to get heard, and it's really all about relationships. What I would say is get online, get on MySpace, get online and find the name of these record labels and the company and the people who are in the publishing division, and if they have a phone number or an email or something on the IM, I would sit there and I will bug the crap out of them! To be honest with you, that's what I would do. If you want to ask your boy, Antonio, what I would do, if you got something worthwhile, think about it. If you have a cure for any type of disease or anything in the world and you knew it cured because of what it did for your family or your friend, what would you do? You would beat down every doctor's door in America to get this thing to them because why? You believe and you knew that it worked. And that's the same with a song. You're going to have to get out there and you have to get out there in the streets. You're going to have to get out to these performance rights societies. You're going to get out here and to all the workshops and meet people and put your registered copyrighted song in the hands of as many people you can. I don't care if you meet Switchfoot's manager. I don't care if you meet The Rolling Stones' barber. I mean find a way to get your songs in the hands of people who want to listen. That is the number one reason. But I would say for legitimate purposes, do all you can, get on these websites. Find out the people who are actually in position. And you know what? You'll be surprised how many of these people will actually call you back. You may say, "Man, somebody says he's in New York or they're in London or they're in LA, man, they would never call me back in Grand Rapids, Michigan. But I guarantee you this, they will call you back and if you keep on knocking, they're going to open those doors of opportunity to you but you got to be ready. Don't let that door open and you say "Man, I forgot to pay for my $45" or "Man, I didn't get this song registered with BMI." Get that stuff done first and then after that, you burn rubber to make it happen.
