CHANTELLE TIBBS: When you sit down and you're ready to make a T-shirt, before you draw or do anything on a shirt, make sure that you have the idea well worked out in your head. Make sure you have the idea worked out on a piece of paper or anything at all. GRACE FRAGA: Okay. CHANTELLE TIBBS: You don't want to start painting and then just look, "Oh, I forgot." Because these T-shirts cost money even if it is like--well, I have a tax ID so we get it a little cheaper but even then, you don't want to waste five bucks or four to six... GRACE FRAGA: Exactly. CHANTELLE TIBBS: ...or even $2 on a shirt and then be like, "Ooh!" You have to sit and wait for another one or go out and get another one. Really, seriously see the image and then go for it before you start painting. Another tip that I have is on dark shirts like these are black if you have a chalk and you just kinda want to like doodle something... GRACE FRAGA: Okay. CHANTELLE TIBBS: ...that comes off really quick so that you don't or you can just kinda like sketch it out or see how it looks like but you--don't even press too hard on it because you don't want to paint over the chalk 'cause then the paint might not stick to the shirt too much. You don't want it to... GRACE FRAGA: Oh, really? CHANTELLE TIBBS: Uh-huh. GRACE FRAGA: So, when you do the chalk, make sure you take it off? CHANTELLE TIBBS: Slightly. Yeah, make sure... GRACE FRAGA: Oh, very lightly? CHANTELLE TIBBS: You just brush it off or you take it off. It will come off really quickly. On a white shirt, I always use pencil... GRACE FRAGA: Oh, yeah. CHANTELLE TIBBS: ...actually, yeah, to do that. GRACE FRAGA: [OVERLAPPING] CHANTELLE TIBBS: Just in case 'cause if you don't know--make sure that you clean up all your stuff. Like right now, this is stupid. This is a mistake of mine. I have brushes and stuff that get here and I'm laughing and we're smiling and then we go to pick up the shirt and that hits this one back to the shop right. So, you want to make sure that you've cleaned up, that your area's organized, that everything is good and that [OVERLAPPING]. GRACE FRAGA: Your hands are clean too. CHANTELLE TIBBS: Your hands are clean as well. I always, always, always have painted hands and you're leaning on the shirt. And again, it's good to be creative but you don't want to keep making the same mistakes over and over and over again.
