Gafftopsail Haylard Bend that's quite one long name for a simple hitch. It is a misleading name. They call it a bend instead of a hitch because the old sailors felt bending a rope was only to bend it around a loop or a ring but we will show you how this is done here. I will show you my made up hitch that I'm going to use and I am going to take my line and it is just going to go under my hitching post and around like so. I am just going to wrap it around like so and it is just going to go under my standing line like this just twirl this up a little bit so you can see it and I am just going to place it through both loops like this and then as I tighten it down it will tighten up really good and tight so let's do this one more time. I do my rope and my hitching post, it is going to go over and under, one more loop like so and then behind my standing end and then through both lips, pull it a little bit tighter. There you go your Gafftopsail Haylard Bend.
