How to Play Different Snare Drum Sounds

JOEL SIEGEL: Alright. So, briefly, I just want to discuss--get back to the areas of the drum like we covered earlier and just talk about it with the rods. The same basic principles are going to apply and you're just going to have it within the context of that kind of slightly weaker, more resonant sound that you're getting from the drum with the rods. So, here's the center of the drum. Again, it's that dry sound versus playing to the side of the center; you're going to get a lot more resonance here.
