How to Zest an Orange
Hi! I'm Diane Weisman and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to show you how to juice an orange. Now, we're going to talk about zesting. Zesting is taking the orange peel and putting it in soups, desserts, foods, and giving it zested like, but don't include any of the white part under the skin because that's bitter. You can freeze the zesting in the freezer for up to 6 months in an air tight Ziploc bag. These are some of the tools you can use when you're zesting: a pairing knife, a potato peeler. These 2 utensils will give you a longer strip. You can use a grater. Any of the sides would work. I prefer using an actual zester. It gives a fine zest that can be used in cookies, Chinese food, beverages, anything. Be careful not to get any of the white in there. It's so easy. Look at that. Nice and fine and smells wonderful. No parts of the orange will be wasted. Sometimes when you're juicing, you just want to grab one of those oranges and eat it. This utensil, the orange peeler, is one of the handiest tools that you can have around the kitchen. This tool has a little hook in the end. You just take it and run it so easily along the skin. It makes peeling an orange so easy.
