How to Pick Oranges for Juicing
Hi! I'm Diane Weisman and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to show you how to juice an orange. Some Valencia oranges go through a process called regreen. In the late spring and summer, this regreening happens when the fruit is left on the tree during the summer months. The warm temperature causes a pigment called chlorophyll to return to the skin, causing a greenish tint. The color of the skin has no effect on the sweetness of the fruit. These oranges are fully ripe, juicy, and sweet. Another orange that is just as juicy as the Valencia orange, if not juicier, is the Honeybell. My mother-in-law sends these oranges to us from Florida every year after the holidays. It's a hybrid made from the dancing tangerine and the Duncan grapefruit, and it's available only a few weeks after the holidays in January. It is so sweet and so juicy, you're going to need a bib.
