Conducting Music with the Four Beat Pattern
Hello, my name is Duane Carter and, on behalf of Expert Village, I will be talking about band conducting. Now, I'll demonstrate the four beat pattern. Just like the two beat pattern, the four beat pattern can be used for either the duple or triple meter. In this case, the duple will be 4/4 or common pattern, and the triple will be the 12/8 pattern. And it looks like this. Now if we were going to count that out it would sound like this in 4/4, one two three four, one two three four, one two three four. And I'll subdivide that, one and two and three and four, and one and two and three and four and. And the 12/8, we still have the basic four beats, one two, three, four, one, two, three, four. Now if we subdivide that, it would sound like this, one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve, one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve, one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve. And that's our four beat pattern.
