About Conducting Music
Hello, my name is Duane Carter and, on behalf of Expert Village, I will be talking about band conducting. Regardless of the person who stands in front of the concert band or orchestra, the stage band or choir, waving his or her arms, this is the conductor. The conductor's main job is to interpret the music and to help the ensemble realize these ideas for performance. Though there are many processes involved to reach this final outcome, there are two aspects of this job that are recognizable to most of us. And that is, keeping time and shaping the music. These two aspects will be the central focus of these videos. In this series of videos, you will learn the basics of conducting. I will tell you a little bit about the history. Briefly discuss the two main styles of conducting. And I will demonstrate the conducting patterns and techniques needed to be a conductor.
