Questions & AnswersJOEL SIEGEL: So, each drum around the kit is gonna--is capable of producing a lot of different sounds. The first one I want to illustrate, and this is the one that I've been doing so far, is when you're hitting in the center of the head. This is advantageous a lot of times for a snare when you're playing--usually when you're playing for any kind of pop music, this is really going to be your most pronounced staccato, and usually, a slightly higher pitch. It just--it cuts through the music when you're hitting in the center of the drum. So, we'll play it both with the snares off and the snares on to give you an idea. This is the sound--and I want you to pay attention to the sound as it is being hit in the center.
