ATHENA REICH: In this segment, I'm going to talk about what to pack on your music tour. In terms of how many CDs to bring, I would say, to be safe, bring 10 CDs per day that you are performing. You should really expect to sell anywhere from zero to five CDs per gig, depending--some people sell more, some people sell less. But to be realistic, most people, especially singers/songwriters sell between that amount. But bring extra 'cause you're going to meet people that you'll want to give your CD to. You might meet industry people. You might crash at someone's house and want to give them your CD as a gift. You might want to give the bar a copy of your CD so that they can play it. That's great marketing. You need to bring clothes for all weather. You need to bring your instruments, of course. And some musicians like to get instrument insurance. You can purchase it through one of the musician unions like ASCAP. Some people like to take their chances. I took my chances. Hey, it's your call but things definitely get stolen on the road.
