ATHENA REICH: In this segment, I'm going to talk about how to keep notes on all the venues that you're contacting. This is a printout from my Indie Band Manager software for a club in Asheville, North Carolina called Club Hairspray. So, as you can see, I always keep track of the name, the contact person, the manager or one of the people--the bookers. There's two people--this is maybe a little outdated--[PH] Lordan and Susan. Definitely the address, the website, the email, the phone number and in Indie Band Manager, there's note--you can put notes like, "I called on October 8th, no one was there. I called on October 12th, they told me to call back and ask for Susan. I called on October 15th and they said that they were very interested but they wanted me to email them my electronic press kit. I called on October 22nd, they said they looked at the press kit but they weren't ready to make a decision till next week." You get the point. The point is to pretty--to keep detailed notes because otherwise--Look, you're going to be calling these venues sometimes 20 times before you get a "Yes" or even a "No". It can be overwhelming unless you keep really good records.
