ATHENA REICH: In this clip, I'm going to talk about how to actually contact your venue. I recommend using the phone over email. Definitely use email but you know what? It's harder to ignore or say no someone on the phone than it is to just simply delete an email. So, my little trick of the trade is call up the venue, call them up, "Hello, may I speak to the manager?" You might say, "My name is Athena Reich. I'm booking a tour and I would love to talk about performing at your venue. I have a local act who's willing to open for me. I have friends who live in your town, they said they're going to come out. I have a marketing plan, I'm going to be contacting the press so I'm going to be doing everything possible to really get people out. I have some experience with this. I've been on TV--blah, blah, blah." Try to impress them. Say, "Can I send you a link to my website? Can I send you a link to my MySpace page?" I always try to emphasize the electronic press kit because then you can save the extra couple bucks mailing the press kit. Talk to them, be confident, sell yourself, be natural.
