ATHENA REICH: In this clip, I'm going to talk about how to research venues. So, you want to book your tour? The best, easiest, most direct way to do this is to go on the internet, find the websites Myspace, Sonicbids pages of artists whose music is like your own, artists who are touring. See--look at their calendars, where have they toured? And then you can call up those venues and you can say, "I know that, this person played there, this person played there. My music is like such and such who played there on October 8th." You come in there more prepared and it gives you a guide. You know what you can do? You can even email that performer and say, "Hey, I notice you played at Cafe X in Wisconsin in October. How was your experience at that cafe?" And they might say, "It was great. I got paid 50 bucks. The guy was nice." Or they might say, "Don't bother. The guy was a jerk and he cheated me out of money." So, do your research, look at the artists online whose music is like your own.
