Find Music Venues for a Tour

ATHENA REICH: In this clip, I'm going to talk about how to market yourself to a venue. You want to get yourself booked into a venue. A venue, meaning, a bar, a coffee shop, a concert hall, a library, a house concert tour, whatever it is but don't just expect that you can call them up and say, "Hey, I do really great music, book me." Put yourself in their shoes, what are they looking for? If it's a bar or a restaurant or cafe, you know what they're looking for? The mighty dollar. They want people to come in, buy drinks, buy food, whatever it is they sell, they want to know that people are going to fill the seats. So, when you call them up, you need to think how can I market myself in a way that will appeal to their needs? Their needs to fill those seats. There's many different ways you can do that. One of the ways that I did it was that I would always--I would always say--I'd call up the venue and I would say, "Look, I'm going to come to your town and I have a local acts. They live in your town and they have a great draw. They're going to come and perform with me." I mean, there's a million ways to do it but really, put yourself in the shoes of the venue. Think about what they need.
