How to Glue a Clouser Minnow for Fly Fishing

ALVIN DEDEAUX: So, the last thing to do is to whip finish this and put a little glue on it, a little head cement. So, pull out an extra bit of thread, get my whip finish tool out, hook that on behind that thread, bring it over the bottom over the whip finisher, pull it up, give it a little twist, it makes a four. Once again, I'm wrapping this thread around this thread and the hook shank to trap that thread so that it doesn't unravel. Okay, one time. Now, since this is a fly I'm going to probably use for saltwater fish that might have some teeth, I'm going to ahead put a second whip finish on there just for a little bit of extra security. Bring it all the way down so I keep a nice taper. Okay, we've got that locked in. Cut it off, nice and close. Last step is to apply my head cement to it, just put that on there, and that's a pretty good size head on this fly. A lot of thread, and like I said, the fishes are some toothy fish, so I'm going to go ahead and just put a couple of coats on that. This stuff dries pretty quick so you can just wait a second and put another coat on, and it will give a nice little shine, a little bit of extra flash and some protection. You can also if you want put the head cement back over the white bucktail and the little wrap you did behind the eye. But, it is ready to go.
