JOHN SEXTON: Halo 3 is a registered trademark of Bungie Software, a company with which I have no affiliation. You come up here through a corridor on the right, and you see that there's been a cave-in. But there's a hole here that we can go through, so, I'm just going to jump down there, and I'm getting another vision from Cortana now. And remember, Cortana has been captured by the Flood, which is the other race of enemies in the Halo Universe. Flood are sort of a mindless galaxy-wide virus that consume everything that they come into contact with. And the name Halo actually comes from an object that is essential to the mythology of the game, of course, but also, is the location of the very first Halo game on the original Xbox. It's just a ring-shaped space station out in space that your characters crash-landed on in the beginning of the first game. And at the end of the first game, you've come to find out that Halo, in addition to being a gigantic, sort of, ring world, is also a weapon, and that the purpose of Halo is to wipe out the Flood. Unfortunately, the Flood, because they infest everything that they touch and consume and, essentially, grow like a virus, or like molar bacteria where they--anything they touch becomes a part of them. It's very hard to kill something like that. So the way that the Halo works is that it just, essentially, eradicates all life in the universe and it starves the Flood to death that way, so, they don't have anything to consume, so, they stop growing and, eventually, they die off. And so, that's the purpose of the Halo, and the Halos are these devastating ring weapons that, essentially, just wipe out all life in the universe.
