Also a RUB is mostly used as a sign for dominance. The bigger the rub then usually the bigger the buck but not always the case.

That is not a scrape dude! That is a rub, a scrape is where the buck scrapes out a area on the ground (usually under a limb) puts his hoof print in it and urinates on the dirt to attract a doe as she will also urinate in it if she is interested in him.

Scrapes Guide for Hunter's

Hi! I’m Robert Rogers on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this clip we are going to be talking about some scrapes. While scouting earlier, we came across a nice scrape here from a buck obviously. Scrapes happen when bucks are losing their velvet. Velvet is a thin layer of skin underneath or on top of their horns. What they do is scrape that velvet off, it itches a little bit and that is how you get a nice clean rack or antlers. Here you can see deer came in, rubbed his antlers right here. Sometimes we look a little bit higher depending on the height of the deer or how big he is. Looks like maybe you can never tell for sure but I would say from the size of the scrape it is probably a younger deer. It’s a good location to be hunting right around here. Obviously there are some bucks around.
