How to Attach a Weed Guard in Fly Tying

ALVIN DEDEUX: So what we'll do is we take the heavy mono. We're going to kind of slide it between the jaws on the vice so that it comes out right next to the hook. It will pull it forward, and then what we're going to do is poke it through the eye of the hook and sort of pinch it right there. You want to make sure that when you pinch it, it still going to protrude out past the point of the hook because that's where I'm going to tie it off. Okay, so I'm just pinching it here. I'm going to take my thread and tie both ends of that monofilament down tight over the hook, right near the eye of the hook. Okay. We would have done that after we tied our fly. We'd finish it and then clip everything off. And now, we have a weed guard on our hook.
