ALVIN DEDEUX: The next category of tying materials are synthetic materials. Those are obviously just man-made materials, whether it's fibers, monofilament fibers. This stuff is called fish hair. It's made to look like some type of hair but it's a synthetic monofilament product. Tinsel, you might have seen that in packaging or your grandma might have thrown that out during Christmas. This is also another form of the [INDISCERNIBLE] in a thinner, kind of thread-type material. Lots of different yarns, polypropylene, antron, a bunch of different types of yarns in all type of thicknesses and densities. Old sandals, this is a great material for cutting out and making popper bodies. Packing foam, you can use this for flotation underneath other materials. Just wrap it on there and just the flotation properties of it will make your fly float a little bit better. Closed-cell foam, cut it in strips or long sheets of it. All types of strange and bizarre materials can be used to make some really nice flies. So you're kinda always keeping your eye out for that next cool thing to make your flies out of.
