How to Play Bossa Nova With Claves

Hi, I'm Aaron Bland on behalf of Expert Village, and I'm going to demonstrate for you a clave pattern called the "Bossa Nova". This can be broken down in numerical form like we did with the Biello, 3, 3, 2...1, 2, 3...1, 2, 3...1, 2...for that Biello pattern. The Bossa Nova can be broken down 3, 3, 4, 3, 3. Here's that pattern, 1, 2, 3...1, 2, 3...1, 2, 3, 4...1, 2, 3...1, 2, 3...1, 2, 3, ...1, 2, 3...1, 2, 3, 4...1, 2, 3...1, 2, 3. There's that pattern played twice. Now if you add up 3 plus 3 plus 4 plus 3 plus 3, you get 16, or think of this as 16th notes. It could also be counted 1E and a 2E and a 3E and a 4E, and a 1E and a 2E and a 3E and a 4E, and a 1E and a 2E and a 3E and a 4E, and a 1E and a 2E and a 3E and a 4E, and a 1. There's your "Bossa Nova" pattern.
