Using the Triple Word Square in Scrabble
Hi! My name is Andy Strohl and on behalf of Expert Village, in this clip we will be discussing the triple word space on the Scrabble board. Don’t forget to check out my work at www.strohldigital.com. Okay, so the triple word score. We discussed it earlier. It is one of the most important squares on the board. It yields the most points per word and we are going to look at how to attack them offensively and in a defensive manner as well in this clip and we are going to do that by looking at the board. Okay so here you can see the word that was challenged, tenant. That word remains there because I won the challenge. You see it opens it up, it opens the t up to the triple word score, so that means if I don’t play this spot, a good opponent will come in here and take this spot and maybe hit a huge word. I’m always looking to fill this spot. I’m always looking to take these out before my opponent does. My opponents do. That is on the defensive strategy. Even though this isn’t a terrific word, I want to plug that spot every time and this still isn’t bad. A decent word on a triple word score always yields somewhere between 20 or 30 points. This one here 4, 5, 6, 7, 7 times 3 equals 21 points. We are always trying to score at least 20 points especially as a beginner. 20 points is a great place to start. So you can see how a triple letter score really maximizes your scoring in the game of Scrabble. Use them both in an offensive manner and a defensive manner. Take the triple word scores whenever possible.
