How to Keep Score Playing Dominoes

Hi! I’m Nathan Holsey, author of the book The Dominologist. On behalf of expertvillage.com, in this clip I will be talking to you about keeping score with paper. If you’d like to learn more about double 6 dominos, please refer to my website thedominologist.com. Keeping score with paper, real important to be very accurate. Your opponent will think you’re cheating if you’re sloppy. He may think that you’re adding points to your own score, so you have to be very clear on how you write. There are two ways on keeping score with paper. One way is a box house, each line represents 5 points, so here the frame of a house, the very first part of the frame, is just 5 points, if you cross it, it’s 10 points. Every time you add a full circle or an X, these two are considered 10 points each. A full house is considered 50 points, so here’s 10, 10, 10, including the frame, that’s 50 points. This here is 5, 10, this is 5 points, that’s 10 points, this is 10 points. So this would be 5, 10, 20, 30, 35 points, 40 points, 50 points. The other way is in a straight line. If you were to just count the board and say 10, you write a circle, 10. If you got 15 points it would look like this or if someone just like doing X’s, it would look like that, 15 points. So 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 10, 20, 30, 5, 10, 5, that’s 15. They normally wouldn’t add a single line, they would cross this line, 10, 20, 30, 5, etc., 10, 10, 10, 10 and 5, a full count of 50. So normally you keep score up to 150 points.
