The number one thing to think about before you start drying your books is what, wet them. You never ever want to put yourself in a situation where you are potentially contaminating yourself or household or your family in order to save some material possessions. So if your house was flooded from heavy rains, you are probably going to be okay if it's just water that came down and your possessions are just wet. Saying if you have a burst pipe which is an upstairs floor is just leaking down from the ceiling or you really want to worry about is if you have for instance backed up sewage, this is something that you do not want to take into your own hands. If there was major flooding and you had mud coming through underneath your doors and had five feet of mud in your house, probably don't want to be dealing with that type of wetness in your books. Also if it's an incredible humid area where you live and there is lots of mold in the air, then you also want to be very careful before you start to dry your own books. If you have incredibly valuable books, there are always conservators which can take care of your items for you so this is something you might want to look into before you risk your health to save something that was flooded or ruined in contaminated water.
