AUSTIN MCBRIDE: Hi, I'm Austin McBride with Expert Village. Today, I'm going to to show you how to grip a golf club in order to do some trick shots. The trick shots we're going to be working on today involve bouncing a ball off the face of a club. And so, in order to do this best, we need to be able to rotate the club slightly so it has an open face. So, in most golf scenarios, you'll hold the club like so, having it straight down the middle. However, it's best to slightly hold it to the left, open it up, so you're going to be rotating it. The club is going to rotate in your hand a little bit. As for the firmness of your grip, I think it's best to follow Ben Hogan's statement of "tight enough to keep a bird from flying away but not so tight that you're going to kill it." So, just have it in your hand nice and snug. And when we're doing this trick shot, we have it rotated. I like to rest the butt of the club up against my forearm right here so it will allow me to use my entire arm. It's not just going to be my forearm working but, rather, my entire arm will be acting as I pop the ball in the air, like so. And that is how to grip the club in order to do some golf trick shots.
