Rhyming & Reading Games for Kids

Hi, I'm Ann Kennedy on behalf of expertvillage.com and this session we'll be talking about rhyming and reading games. More about rhyming. In our last session we looked at the importance of standing for attitude as we did Jack be nimble, Jack be quick and we jumped over a candle stick. This is a little more about rhyming, a book called Chicka Chicka 123. It already sets in motion that beat and remember in one of the other lessons we went Chicka Chicka 123, we clapped. So we may look at something like this and say one told two and two told three, I'll race you to the top of the apple tree. Let's try it. So you may be outside, a beautiful book to take with your child outside because a lot of the things in this book relate to outside activities and numbers. Really good rhymes too if you go on a lot of different websites and look for books are the old jump rope games. Children learn by jumping rope and having those riddles and rhymes. It's important as you rhyme to get yourself physically involved and so that's part of it and this particular one is called, by Dr. Seuss, as he gobbled the cakes on his plate, the greedy ape said as he ate, the greener green grapes are, the keener keen apes are, to gobble green grape cakes, they're great. You may have some grapes and you may say can we make cakes with these? No, we can't. Play with the rhymes, look for meaning and try to do as much activity as you can and as we looked in one of the other sessions, look what the book is about. In this particular book, it's a wonderful rhyming book that also teaches numbers and a chance to go outside. Take the rhyming activities outside, whether it be jump rope, whether it be a rhyme, whether it be jumping over a candle stick and you'll have a lot of fun and it will be wonderful for your child.
