JASON HARRIS: Hi, I'm Jason from ExpertVillage.com. Today, we're making the chest or drawer handle out of bone. We've drilled the holes. I beveled the edges and smoothed the edge on each side. Now, I was talking about the center part before. It's really a lot softer. It's like that bone marrow part. The harder stuff gets towards the edge so the deeper in you go, the softer it gets. And we don't really want to get too far down in because the harder the edge, the better the polish. So, when you're cutting with your drilling bits or any polishing bits, be mindful that you've only got probably about an eighth of an inch or less, a really good hard "polishable" bone. The rest of it will start to deteriorate and it won't look very good so as you--like this, you can see--that's with the cutting bit and that's bright white compared to the outside. We don't want to go very much deeper than that or it will start losing all of the shine and the strength even in the bone. So, next, we're going to take off the outside edge of this old dried-up antler and we'll start working on it from there.
