Drill First Hole in Bone Handle

JASON HARRIS: Hi, I'm Jason with ExpertVillage.com. We're making a drawer handle out of bone. We've marked center for the center hole on each side of the bone. Now, we're going to go partway in one side and partway in the other side but I'm going to do one side at a time. I'm only going to go about halfway and this is going to be three or four steps because the--this is the initial hole that we're going to drill but there will also be another drill hole in the center. So, we only want to go partway down. So, I'll show you how far to go down with this one and we'll stop and talk about it and go on to the next step. So, use your Dremel on low speed. Okay. I'm going to want to talk about that. Now, you can see that my bit is jumping everywhere around and hole's getting bigger and bigger and bigger, that's why I said, we're only going to go partway in and there's going to be two initial holes. It's fine that it jumps around because we actually want one bigger than that to begin with. To start a hole, take the edge of the Dremel and go in right about the center where you want the hole, go in on a slant, turn it over. Do the same thing again and as you go down, you're going to want to try to really keep not too much pressure but keep it right in the center and right flat with the bone. So, we'll do that and I'll show you the other side.
